If you have ever tried to upload an iPhone photo to a government portal, send it to an Android user, or open it on an older Windows PC, you likely encountered an error. This is because Apple adopted the High-Efficiency Image Container (HEIC) format in iOS 11. While HEIC is fantastic for saving storage space on your device—often taking up 50% less space than a traditional JPEG—it is proprietary and heavily tied to the Apple ecosystem.
Windows does not natively open HEIC without downloading a paid codec from the Microsoft Store. Many HR screening software, educational web portals, and legacy printing services still mandate the .jpg or .png extensions exclusively.
Converting your HEIC images to JPG bridges this gap. JPG (or JPEG) has been the universal standard for digital images for over two decades. By converting to JPG, you guarantee that your photo can be opened by anyone, anywhere, on any device.
There are hundreds of conversion websites available on the internet, but the vast majority of them operate on a traditional “Cloud Server” model. When you upload a personal photo—such as an ID card, a family portrait, or a confidential document—these files are sent over the internet to a third-party server. They are processed remotely, and then you download the result. This exposes you to severe privacy risks, as you have no control over whether that server keeps a copy of your files or if their network is secure.
iheic.com operates entirely differently.
We utilize cutting-edge WebAssembly (WASM) technology. When you drop your HEIC photos onto our page, your files never leave your computer. The conversion engine runs entirely inside your browser’s local memory.
Cloud-based converters frequently impose artificial restrictions to save server costs. They might limit you to 5 conversions per day, restrict the file size to 10MB, or put your files in a “queue” behind hundreds of other users.
Because our tool harnesses the idle computing power of your own processor, we don’t need to impose these restrictions:
When converting HEIC to JPG, you are translating a highly compressed file into an older format. By default, JPG can introduce minor blocky artifacts if the compression ratio is set too high. Our converter provides a handy Quality Slider:
We also respect your metadata. By default, critical EXIF data—such as the date the photo was taken—is preserved. However, if you are posting to a public forum and want to hide your location, you can toggle our Privacy Mode to automatically strip GPS coordinates during the conversion.
